Keyword Research Is An Ongoing ExerciseWriting by Nick Stamoulis on Sunday, 11 of November , 2007 at 8:48 am

Keyword research is not a one time exercise. It’s not something you do today then you are done forever. Serious Internet marketers make keyword research and ongoing exercise.

That doesn’t mean that you have to do keyword research every day. It does mean that you continue to research and find the best keywords for your website concept over the life of your business. Whether you spend an hour a day or an hour a week on the activity is up to you, but you must spend some time on keyword research throughout your project if you expect it to succeed.

Ogletree talks about his Stumbleupon experiment. He went the paid for route which is interesting as I haven’t read any experiences regarding Stumbleupon.

Reading around the Design blogs a lot of experienced Design bloggers seem unimpressed with stumbleupon. I think they are missing a trick. It’s a very different tool so needs a different approach. It may be that experienced Design people have developed what works for them and are having success with that and so can only give a finite amount of time to these shiny new tools.

If anyone using any tool comes to my site using Design as a search term or keyword, I can use that traffic. Stuff is stumbled on this site using the Design keyword and I have got about 1500 so far this month. Each time a wave of stumblers arrive on the shores of Cornwall Design means what I write is out before them. If it’s good stuff then they stumble it too until a horde of people have bookmarked.

Images Provide Design Traffic - Design Tip Week 45

Any good Design campaign will put the emphasis on ranking your site for the content of the site. But overlooking the images on the site can be a big mistake especially if your site is selling products which naturally use imagery as part of the sales pitch. So why not use those image to draw visitors through organic image search?

Your first step should be to set up a Design Account where you can use Webmaster Tools. Inside the Webmaster tools you will find an option under Tools named “Enable enhanced image search”. When this option is enabled Design will start cataloging your images for placement in the search engine results for images which can increase your traffic, especially if you can show in the search results that show images above the organic search results. (See example of Design search with images above organic results for the search term ‘oak tree’)

Design And Its Many ApplicationsWriting by Nick Stamoulis on Monday, 5 of November , 2007 at 2:29 pm

One can get wrapped up into definitions real easily. There is a tendency to think about Design only in terms of search engine benefits, but that’s not always the case. Certainly, search engine positioning is the primary benefit to be gained from your Design efforts. But don’t get locked into thinking that Design is all about where you stand with Design.

There are other ways to measure your Design success. For instance, did you know that many smaller search engines and directories get their information from Design, Design!, and the bigger search engines? It’s true. You don’t even have to submit your website to some of these search engines, aggregators, and directories. They will find you. Dogpile.com may not be your No. 1 source of traffic, but it could send you traffic in small doses and that traffic could just as easily convert into sales as any other.

Website Optimizer: A Fabulous Tool For Better PPCWriting by Nick Stamoulis on Sunday, 4 of November , 2007 at 9:09 am

One of the best tools for webmasters is Design’s Website Optimizer. As a part of Design AdWords technology, it has been an essential component to successful PPC campaigns since its beginning. But it doesn’t necessarily need to be use for PPC. It can be used to improve your website.

In fact, Website Optimizer’s primary goal is to help webmasters improve onsite content. With multivariate testing you can test each section of any web page on your website to determine which sections are most effective for keeping people on your website and getting them to buy your product or service. The Website Optimizer will help you test your headlines, your photos, your closing, and every aspect of any web page.

The Link Popularity Tool I Can’t Live WithoutWriting by Nick Stamoulis on Tuesday, 30 of October , 2007 at 1:38 pm

Link popularity refers to the number of inbound links you have pointing at your website. Do you know how to check this?

There are various tools you can use to check your link popularity. Which one you use depends a lot on your preferences, but I like MarketLeap.

The reason I like MarketLeap is because you can also check your search engine saturation on the website. It’s the only link popularity checker that I’m aware that also allows you to look at your SES. So it has benefit for that reason alone.

Social Bookmarking For DesignWriting by Nick Stamoulis on Saturday, 27 of October , 2007 at 11:43 pm

Social bookmarking is one of the best traffic tools I’ve discovered. You write a blog post or build a web page and bookmark it at your favorite social bookmarking website. Then you share it with your friends. They share it with their friends and so on and so on. But did you know social bookmarking also provides you with some Design benefit?

It’s true. When you bookmark your website you get a link back to your web page or blog from the social bookmarking site and you get all the PageRank benefits that conveys. Whenever someone else bookmarks your site then you get another link. I’m not sure if there is a limit to the number of social bookmarking links you can have (I’m sure there are, but I don’t know what it is), but it is clear that you can get some additional link juice from social bookmarking.
