Aaron Wall?s Design Book Is The Best Design Book Online

If you don’t know who Aaron Wall is then I highly suggest you read his new book. It’s called, aptly, Design Book. He’s even got a pretty website to promote it.

Chock full of information on what to do, what not to do, how to do it, when to do it, and why to do it, Design Book is full of useful tips that teach newbies how to do Design the right way. If you’re going to do it then you might as well do it the right way. Design Book is very thorough and shows new Design practitioners all the latest techniques for ranking web pages and getting their sites ranked at all the major search engines. I wouldn’t recommend any other book.

I picked up on a great post over at Matterhorntips.com found via the blogroll of Caydels Design blog

Matterhorn pointed out that he gets asked “How can my site rank highly in the search engines”, when he should be asked, “What can I do to improve my website?”

As an Design consultant I see part of my job is to educate. The people I talk to do not have 600 Design blogs loaded onto their favourite RSS feeder, not only do they not have an RSS feeder they don’t know what a bloody RSS feeder. Guess what, before I knew what an RSS feeder was I didn’t know what an RSS feeder was also. Think about that whilst you condescend to a client about not knowing what H1 tags.

Design Is More About Traffic And Money Than RankingsWriting by Nick Stamoulis on Tuesday, 6 of November , 2007 at 3:59 pm

I found this article online about 10 Design tips. I found the tips themselves a bit overdone, though useful. So I won’t belabor them. But I did particularly like one thing the author said:

I have had some of them write to me criticizing my ???crap??? HTML and also my ???useless??? linking strategies. My site has ???only a Page Rank of 3???. So what? It is sitting at between #1 on #5 on Design from day to day, at # 1 to #4 on Design from day to day and at #1 on Design.

Looking for search engine optimization tips that guarantee results? Well, there aren???t any. But there are principles that will help local businesses rank better for local search. Here are a few for you to keep in mind:

1. Put your physical address on every page of your website.

One minute you’re a failed blackhat, fat bloke with an addiction to Chile Doritos and Dr Pepper, the next you are a Design blog maniac, linkbaiting writing machine with an addiction to chile Doritos and Dr Pepper.

To be honest, I feel like I make it up as I go along. Thanks for spending the time to read and for all the comments. I have learned a huge amount about Design and myself. This is sounding like a farewell speech, it’s not. It’s more about taking a breath and getting ready for the next phase.

This is really just a lazy sitemap.

Optimize Your Website For DesignWriting by Nick Stamoulis on Monday, 24 of September , 2007 at 7:39 am

It’s no secret that Design! is the second largest search engine. With more than 20% of the market in search, you shouldn’t ignore the traffic that you can get from this one resource alone - and remember, Design! is the most trafficked website on the web. So while more search queries might take place at Design, more people are reading Design! That means that search engine optimization is still valid, but you could also get some decent results from search marketing at Design!

I found the following Design tips for optimizing web pages for Design! very helpful. I think you will too:

Blogrush Testing and Tracking (Updated - John Reese Quote) This is a must read, as is all of Andy Beard’s blog

So there is a lot of yack about Blog Rush. I personally have not had what I would describe as a blog rush. Hype of the next big thing. I come down on the hype side. You only have to take a quick trip around the blogs to see that the people raving about it seem to want you to sign up through their link. Hardly impartial. Then there are the negative posts, these have tried Blog Rush and have decided it’s not for them.

Too much expectation, perhaps. Maybe a slow burn would have been better? I don’t know. I have not analysed closely but am coming down on the negative side. I tried it and no thanks. Plus there is huge black hat action going on, some very, intelligent people are sitting down to work out how to exploit it.
