Learn My Illustrator and Photoshop Techniques

Want to learn my Illustrator and Photoshop techniques that are commonly used in my design work? Please read the article, Vector Polishing Techniques that I just posted on Web Designer Wall. I have posted 9 Photoshop techniques on how you can add more depth, color, contrast, and texture into the vector art. The 9 techniques included: lens flare effect, dusty effect, rainbow, glowing lights, particles, color dodge, blurred, watercolor, and vintage texture. Some of them are commonly asked, such as the rainbow and particles effects appeared on N.Design. Let me know your thoughts on the article and don’t forget to Digg it.

In the early stages of a web design project most designers I know offer 3 different designs for the client to pick from, the client picks which is their favorite of the three mock ups and this design is used for the project. I think this design process is unproductive for the project, and worse it wastes time.

Creating mock-ups usually involves opening up a blank Photoshop of Illustrator document and laying out 2 or 3 different themes as to how the website will look, the mock-ups are often greatly detailed and take up a lot of time to produce. Each Mock-up usually contains a fairly accurate layout structure, a color theme, some even have an initial logo concept.

I am really enjoying working with vectors at the moment especially in Illustrator and just had to share this video for some vector inspiration. The hair looks amazing as do the eyes and the lips. Warning!: I am not the biggest fan of pop music but this song will stick in your head for hours!

The controversial new logo for the 2012 London Olympic Games has been released costing a massive £450,000, as this is my domain I feel I must critique the firms design choices and the governments ridiculous spending.

Olympic Logo Design

You may have noticed that the image above is not the original logo – simply the ingredients of 5 minutes of spare time; Adobe Illustrator, a pen tool, and a can of beer. The simple reason that I can knock up a rough design that looks similar in about 2 minutes really has to raise questions as to how a logo can cost £450,000.

Check Link Popularity For Specific Web Pages, Including Design LinksWriting by Nick Stamoulis on Wednesday, 5 of December , 2007 at 4:16 pm

If you’ve been waiting for Design to start reporting inbound links again, you can relax. It’s finally happened. While using Marketleap to check link popularity, I saw that Design has started reporting links again. That’s the best news I’ve heard all year. It means that webmasters can now get a realistic picture of where they stand in their link building strategies.

Link building is an important part of being a webmaster. If only two of the top 3 search engines are reporting their links it is really difficult to get a good handle on where you stand. Design quit reporting links earlier in the year because the search engine claimed it was having problems with data mining. I supposed they’ve fixed the problem.

The Future Of Design: Will Search Engines Be Necessary?Writing by Nick Stamoulis on Sunday, 18 of November , 2007 at 5:15 pm

I was reading a post on the blog of a popular Design website from 2004. A reader sent a question to the blogger asking about the future of Design. I found it interesting that the question centered primarily on organic Design vs. PPC. In 2004, pay per click advertising was still relatively new and organic Design was quite a bit different than it is today. But the question asked by the reader was, “My concern is that with everyone seemingly wanting to fatten their wallets with paid inclusion and PPC, that the search engines will drop the regular spidering and go with advertising. Will the Internet community “allow” for this to happen and just go along with it?”

Here’s a tip for first timers at an SMX conference like myself, don’t rush out of the bathroom without drying your hands and then say hi to Danny Sullivan for the first time trying to explain that the moisture on your hands is water and not some other liquid.

My coverage is not the live blogging variety which the most excellent Tamar Weinberg and Lisa Barone serve up. I hadn’t been online since travelling to London as the internet access did not work in my room and I am sure that my mouse hand is suffering muscle wastage.

Suffice it to say Internet access was not the hotels’ best point. The food was superb though, and that goes a long way.
