Design: Debunking The Myths On MythsWriting by Nick Stamoulis on Friday, 16 of November , 2007 at 9:39 am

About once a week somebody will publish an article somewhere about the Design myths. Strangely, they’re all different and sometimes contradict each other. Trying to get two Designs to agree with each other on something is like trying to get two young children to play with the same toy without fighting. If it happens, it’ll be a miracle.

The following article was published in Design-News yesterday. It isn’t the first time. Kalena likes that article.

Myth 1 - You need to buy a domain with keywords in it

Living in Richmond, Virginia you don’t often see sharks swimming by, but this week I saw more than a┬? few. These sharks were in the stats and analytics of our client’s sites. Let me explain.

We do social bookmarking for our clients when it feels right and not just for the sake of doing it or because it is the new hot button in the Internet marketing community. For this reason, we haven’t pursued social bookmarking heavily. It does have its uses and can be done effectively if the time and effort are applied and the service or product can utilize that type of marketing. But I digress…

Search Engines: Keep An Eye On More Than One At A TimeWriting by Nick Stamoulis on Thursday, 15 of November , 2007 at 9:27 am

Do you know where you show up on the search results for any of your keywords at each of the search engines? You should.

There are several tools that you can use to search this out, but there is one that I’d recommend as you can also compare your competition in one move. Searchboth.com is a search engine that allows you to search two search engines at the same time and compare the results. What you’ll get is a split screen with each search engine’s SERP for the keyword that you searched.

If you own a local business and you are beginning to promote your business online, it might seem daunting to read about all the ways you can promote your website or conduct Design. In fact, this whole Design thing can seem like a mystery.

You’re in a little bit of a quandary. Being new to Internet marketing and online promotions, you have no idea who to trust. You don’t know if you can trust anyone, in fact. Everyone seems to be interested in your money. “Pay me now and I’ll get you Top 10 listings.” Yeah, right.

Is Content Still King?Writing by Nick Stamoulis on Wednesday, 14 of November , 2007 at 9:15 am

Stoney DeGeyter wrote an engaging article. Unfortunately, I’m not sure I agree with his premise.

The title of the article, “Content is Dead. Community is King Now” pretty much says it. To summarize: Content is important, but it’s not the most important thing. Uh, excuse me, but try building a website with nothing on it - no words, no videos, no audio files, no pictures, no clip art, no graphics, no ideas, just plain old blank white pages. Think it will get anywhere?

I travel to London today to go cover the first London Search Marketing Expo. It will also be my first time at a search conference. I finally get to breathe the same air as people I have been sucking information out of for years. You probably don’t want to hear how excited I am to travel the Great Western Railway, or read about Isambard Kingdom Brunel, one of the most amazing engineers ever.

I am not a trainspotter in any way, shape or form. But, there is something about trains that invokes, romance, mystery, excitement. Also the fact I can plug in my laptop and use it for the whole 5 hours is quite useful.

Who’s Your GoDaddy? Design Tag Teams Webmaster ToolsWriting by Nick Stamoulis on Tuesday, 13 of November , 2007 at 4:57 pm

(Source) At BlogWorld, an audience member asked me to share my #1 Design recommendation for bloggers. Tough question, right? I told the audience that every blogger should sign up for Design Webmaster Tools.

Andy Beal’s advice is stellar. GoDaddy is one of the best web hosts online and no blogger should go one day without Design Webmaster Tools. The information you get as a part of Design Webmaster Tools is unquestionably the best you can get anywhere. You can manage your Design AdWords account, read the Design blog, add your sitemaps, report spam and paid links, check your gmail messages, and they have a host of other features as well.
